Disclaimer & Policies

FOOD ALLERGY DISCLAIMER

• Gem’s Cakes recognises the seriousness of food allergies and cannot guarantee that the products used are free from any ingredients that may contain food allergies eg nuts, milk, eggs, gluten etc, therefore Gem’s Cakes is unable to supply cakes for special diets.

CAKE ORDERS

° Feel free to send me pictures of designs of the cake you are looking for but PLEASE NOTE, I cannot replicate cakes. I will do something along similar lines with a few tweaks to make the cake unique to you.

DEPOSIT & PAYMENT POLICY

• Your quote is valid for 14 days for celebration cakes & cupcakes and up to 1 month for wedding cakes.

• For ALL cakes a 25% deposit is required at the time of ordering by Bank Transfer, Paypal or in person to ensure the date is secured into my diary. Without a deposit, your cake order will not be recorded or secured and the date could be lost due to another customer placing an order and paying their deposit for the same date.

• The remaining balance can be paid prior to collection, in instalments (if you prefer) just ask for details, or to be paid in cash on collection of your cake.

• For wedding cakes, the remaining balance can be paid in instalments (if you prefer) just ask for details, or to be paid at least 10 days prior to the wedding date.

• Deposits are non-refundable (except in exceptional circumstances), they are to ensure your date is secured into my diary and to cover the costs of items required to make your cake.

CANCELLATION POLICY

• If you need to cancel your order, the deposit is non-refundable but may be transferred to an alternative date provided 4 weeks notice has been given and provided there is availability for the new date.

• If you are unable to collect your cake due to circumstances outside our control e.g breakdown, weather conditions, traffic congestion, accident etc, Gems Cakes will not be liable and full payment will still be required.

• If Gem’s Cakes has to cancel due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, your deposit will be fully refunded and as much notice as possible will be given.

COLLECTION POLICY & MISHAP DISCLAIMER

• An agreed date for collection must be made when placing your order, however the time of collection can be confirmed nearer the time.

• A collection form will be available for you to sign on collection of your cake confirming you are happy with your cake.

• Gem’s Cakes will not be responsible for any damage to your cake once it has left the premises. Please ensure you plan ahead on how you are going to transport your cake.

ORDER CHANGES POLICY

• If you need to change anything with your order, please let me know as soon as possible – ideally 2 weeks prior to the collection date to ensure changes can be made.

TRANSPORTING YOUR CAKE

• Please ensure you hold your cake box with both hands underneath as cakes can sometimes be quite heavy.

• Please do not squeeze the sides of your cake box as this may cause damage to any decorations on your cake.

• Please ensure that you transport your cake flat either in the footwell or the boot of the car.

• Please be aware that transporting your cake on the car seat or your lap even for a short journey may affect the stability of the cake and could result in damage which would be unrepairable.

• Please be aware on hot days, it is advisable to travel with the air conditioning on or with opened car windows to keep the car as cool as possible so the cake does not get too warm.

• Please note – once your cake has left the premises, Gem’s Cakes is no longer liable for any damaged incurred by the customer.

STORING YOUR CAKE

• Your cake or cupcakes have been baked to ensure they are fresh for your collection date. I would normally say that cupcakes should be eaten within 2 days of baking to prevent them from tasting dry, fondant covered cakes can last up to 5 days tasting fresh as the sponge is sealed. Buttercream covered cakes should be eaten within 3 days. Cakes etc are freshly baked using fresh ingredients therefore, they will not have an extended shelf life as supermarket cakes which contain a lot of additives and preservatives.

• Please note, your cake may contain support dowels (tiered cakes), ribbon, crystals, cake wire, skewers or cocktail sticks (used to support cake toppers). These MUST be removed prior to consumption. I will let you know if any of these items have been used on your cake.

• Please keep your cake in a cool, dark place and away from direct sunlight until you are ready to use it.

• Please do not keep your fondant covered cake in a fridge as the fondant may sweat.

• If you take your cake to a venue, please advise that your cake needs to be kept in a cool, dark place but not a fridge.

COMPLAINTS

• If you have any concerns regarding your cake, in the first instance, please contact me at Gem’s Cakes to give me chance to rectify the situation. Refunds are at the discretion of Gem’s Cakes.

• If structure damage occurs, please take immediate photos before handling the cake then please return the cake in full, otherwise any refunds will not be given.

If you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
